Candle Burning Etiquette

  1. A good rule of thumb is to burn your candle for 1 hour for every inch wide the candle is. If you have a 2-inch-wide candle, you need to burn the candle for at least 2 hours the very first time.
  2. Allow the candle to burn all the way across to the edge of the jar before putting it out. This ensures that your candle does not tunnel as it burns leaving wax along the sides of the jar. A good melt pool will give off the best fragrance throw.
  3. Do not burn your candle longer than 4 hours at a time. This helps preserve the fragrance
  4. Keep wick trimmed to about 1/4 inch.
  5. Trim candle after each burn. This helps prevent the candle from smoking on the next burn. A good pair of wick trimmers that can cut the wick cleaning will be beneficial.
  6. If soot forms on the inside of the jar, extinguish the candle, let it cool, then wipe with a damp clean cloth.
  7. To extinguish candle, dip the wick into the melted wax pool then restraighten to prevent smoking or use a snuffer.
  8. Extinguish candle if it smokes, the flame gets too high or if it flickers. Let it cool, trim the wick and relight if desired.
  9. Size matters. Burn candle for the first 45minutes with the door closed. Be sure to use the correct size candle for the space you are using.
  10. Store in a cool dark place.
  11. Keep candles away from children and anything flammable.
  12. Don’t leave burning candles unattended.
